  • Super Natural_Part 3_Legends

As said in the original part of this presentation the largest thing to me was the people present at this event.  With snowboarding being such an insane progressive and fast moving sub-culture it was amazing to see the right people be present.  To have everyone be hanging together from young gun Kazu to the wise Tom Burt was amazing.  I am fortunate enough to have really good relationships and ins with a lot of these guys that make it easy for me to get in close and what I want to portray.  (Featured here Kazu Kobbaro, Temple Cummins, Tom Burt, Eric Jackson, Eero Neimla and Travis Rice)

New Work:  4 Generations of Backcountry Legends
Last month I was assigned to go document the Red Bull Super Natural in British Columbia and shoot portraits of each athlete.  A snowboarding contest that consisted of 20 of the best backcountry riders in the past 20 years.  It was quite a heavy crew and amazing to see 4 generations of the legends there.
This contest was Trav’s idea, and baby.  Pretty amazing to see such a progressive idea come through as it is doing nothing but lift the bar in snowboarding.

ARTOFFLIGHT CONCEPT

One of the concepts that Snowboarder Magazine gave me for this shoot was the greek god-Hermes- who had a pair of wings.  They wanted to make that connection with Trav’s Current project:  Art of Flight.

New Work:  Snowboarder Magazine Cover_ February 2012
A few months back Snowboarder Magazine called and wanted me to shoot the cover of the rider of the year issue.  They were pretty hesitant to follow through with the shoot as they have never ran a portrait on the cover, so I was pretty psyched when it came out and honored that they offered the job.  Thanks Pat Bridges and Ryan Hughes.  Congrats Travis Rice on rider of the year- yew!
    NEW WORK: TRANSWORLD PHOTO ANNUAL:
I have an analog photo essay in this issue from a trip to British Columbia I took with the Brain Farm crew for Art of Flight last March.  It was a long, cold, hard month but amazing to be part of such a state of progression.  I knew this trip would be a special one so I treated it as a personal project, having absolute freedom to document and provide a feeling of the story by certain moments I wanted to capture.

Travis Rice_Exits for another day of work.
