A series of portraits in Reykjavik, Iceland I shot during the month of January, on the modern scene of music, fashion and art.  As Iceland is a small but very present circle in the current world of culture, if you are not legit then you are written off quickly as I was at-least told.  I spent two weeks in the city going to people’s studios, homes and lofts as well as raw Iceland environments to photograph and hang out with them.

Above:  Sólstafir, Iceland’s most famous metal band, shot out in the arctic tundra a few minutes outside of the city.

Above:  Gabríela Friðriksdóttir is an artist and sculptor. Outside of her contributions in the art world, she is known for her collaboration with the Icelandic musician and superstar Björk.  Her work is phenomenal and she is a modern day badass.

  • Jan 1, 2013- New Years day:

I decided that I was going to make 2013 heavily weighed on making personal work.  Committing time, effort, and personal funds into it, whatever it would take, I decided it was a must.   I truly feel that going to focus on creating a project or body of work and to do it well is so important.  Then I further realized the underlying feeling:  over the course of my career, it is more important to me personally, to be creating work that is respected by the people and artists I respect rather than focusing on trying to bill out a million dollars per year.    shit- thats just me though.

Jan 15, 2013 I took off to Iceland for 30 days with no plan, contact, obligation, or fuckin clue.  All I knew was I wanted to go post up somewhere for 30 straight days to do nothing but explore, experiment, and create new personal work.  Over the course of the next week I will be releasing parts of that new body.
